A brief history of the OTCM boxes
In the late 1980s I started making veneered jewellery boxes, mainly for presents or to be sold at craft fairs or local shops, and by the early 90s they had become the mainstay of the business, along with the newly introduce chess sets, trinket and various other size boxes. As time went on, we began to concentrate on larger pieces of individual and fitted furniture and the boxes tended to take a backseat. From 1994 to 2004, no boxes were actually made, since then we only made commissions. It wasn't until 2018 that we began to again make the boxes available to purchase,
The "Classic" Jewellery box has changed very little over the years, the only slight variation being that in 2018, we teamed up with "Stackers" to use their beautiful trays, a move that I think has added that final piece of luxury to the boxes.
In May 2020 we will bring out a new range of boxes. The "Regal" watch box will be made in 3 sizes, have a capacity of displaying 4,8 or 16 watches to suit all requirements, There will also be more "Classic" jewellery boxes available, and we will introduce the smaller charm box.
Later in the year we will re-introduce the Chess set box, the first to be made since 1994,
It's a passion and a love for exotic veneers that has for all the years kept the desire to make the boxes alive throughout the history of Oak Tree Cabinet Makers, and one that will continue the last for many years to come.
